 ENGLISH

We received feedback for our IDU summative assessment following which we shared our reflections. We have begun our next unit, Bishop’s Candlesticks, where we are now learning the skill of dialogue writing. We are dwelling on the reasons for forgiving or punishing a criminal. Through a case study, we developed a dialogue exchange set in a court room where we had to use elements of persuasion to appeal to the judge to determine the fate of an accused. We continue working on this plot as we are now in the process of writing a report on the events that unfolded in the court in our individual dialogue writing       

SCIENCE

PHYSICS

We learnt about the new topic, dispersion of light. We were fascinated to see the activity on dispersion of light using prism. We learnt about the real-life example of dispersion i.e. rainbow. We discussed with our peers the reason behind the formation of rainbow and concluded that water droplets act like prism and shows the 7 different colors. We also did an activity using our artistic skills by drawing prisms and showing the different colors that it emits after dispersion.

 CHEMISTRY

In Chemistry, we have been involved in a fun-filled group activity which enhanced our understanding on the atomic theory. This was one of the formative assessments too. We learnt about key words like, atomic mass, atomic number and isotopes. We used values of atomic mass and atomic number to work out the number of protons, electrons and neutrons for various elements and attempted a task sheet on the same. We took our second formative which was an interesting one, wherein we prepared a model of an atom of an element using waste materials. Each student had used his/her creative idea to design the model. We are currently preparing for our summative assessment on the unit, Atoms.

 BIOLOGY

We started the unit ‘Sorting It All Out’. The global context, key concept and the related concept were shared in the class. We learned about classification and the need for classification. Following this, we started working on group tasks in which we had to find the answers for a set of questions using the given information card. This was followed by a class discussion. We also discussed about the four characteristics on which organisms are classified. We then learned about domains and kingdoms. We used handouts to complete a table on domains and kingdoms using the keywords like unicellular, multicellular, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, sexual, asexual reproduction, autotrophs, heterotrophs and saprotrophs. This was followed by completing the given graphic organizer. This was a part of our formative assessment.

INDIVIDUALS & SOCIETIES

We have completed our earlier unit, Knowing Our Ancient Past. Our new unit, Making Connections, has begun. In this unit, we learned about cartography and types of maps such as Physical Maps, Ordnance Maps, and Thematic Maps. Presentations on cartography have also been conducted in class. We look forward to learning more about maps and have thoroughly enjoyed our unit so far.

MATHEMATICS

In Math, we continued with our unit on Statistics where we learnt how to read and plot pie charts. We solved various questions related to this and also watched videos to help us understand better how to construct a pie chart. We have now started with probability where, using a game, we learnt how to calculate probability in a certain event.              

FRENCH

During this week, we revised our previous unit with a group speaking assessment.  We made a family tree by naming all the family members, describing their professions and giving them physical descriptions.  Next, we started with the unit “School Life” and had a brainstorming session on its inquiry questions. We learnt the vocabulary for school material, classroom instructions, and school subjects. We also had a summative assessment and received feedback on our performance.   

SPANISH

We started our new unit “My school”. We learnt how to make our school time table in Spanish and expressed our liking and disliking of a subject.   

HINDI

Phase 1 & Phase 2

We had a revision of the unit and took a formative assessment based on criteria C and D. We discussed our camp experiences in class and wrote short paragraphs on it. We also had a summative assessment based on criterion A and discussed the question paper. We discussion about the culture and food habits a how they affect our daily life.

 DIGITAL DESIGN

We are in the process of finishing our games. It was a good learning experience for us as we learnt the process behind the creation of the games we enjoy playing. We will take feedback from our clients and peers to check the quality of our game.             

VISUAL ARTS

We have started studio-based landscape paintings. We are trying to understand ways in which vertical and horizontal landscapes can be imagined sitting in the studio space. Through the landscape paintings of various artists, we are trying to analyze their socio-cultural aspects. We are working on creating compositions through our research work and visual analysis.

 PRODUCT DESIGN

Ma’am gave us a demonstration of all the tools and materials available in the lab. She explained how to ensure safety measures in lab while working with tools and machines. Product development is in process and we are having fun exploring all the tools like Hammer, Zig saw, Drill Machine, Hand saw and various files. Our products are taking shape gradually.               

MUSIC

We had our summative assessment in which we used our creative thinking skills to compose our own rhythms using multiple note values in 4/4 time signature and then, perform them by clapping on the bars we created.                                                                

PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

We identified the fitness components required in the sports of our choice. Later, we discussed the training methods to improve our fitness.

ENGLISH

We practiced extensively for our IDU summative assessment between L&L and I&S. We also started our new unit, Bishop’s Candlesticks, which is a play. We are identifying the differences in the format and presentation of this form of storytelling and the short stories we had learned in our earlier unit. We read an article in the newspaper on a theft where the thief was forgiven. We discussed the ideas of forgiveness and crime & punishment.

Last week, we reflected on our learnings of the last unit, Building Blocks. We gained knowledge about atomic theories given by various philosophers and scientists and their history through informative videos. We learnt about the important features of Dalton’s theory. We had a very interesting class-discussion around this topic. We also worked on a task-sheet based on atomic theories. We look forward to exploring the world of atoms. We took our summative assessment on integrated topics of Chemistry and Biology.

We have learnt about the prokaryotic and eukaryotic Cells. We watched videos on the topics covered. We labelled the given diagram of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Also, we summarised the similarities and differences between the two types of cells using a Venn diagram. We have completed our formative assessment on cells and microscope. Following this we took summative assessment on the unit ‘Building Blocks’

We created our final sketch and a list of tools and materials to create our products and handed over the same to the technician in the lab. In the next class, he will provide all the relevant materials, so we can create our products. We are very excited about product development.             

PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

We discussed the term ” coordinative ability” in sports training and its importance during training. We also identified the sports in which ” coordinative ability ” is required the most.  Also, we practiced the skills of different sports of our choices during Sports Edge.

ENGLISH

These last two weeks have been fun and informative! We have learnt a lot! We had our second formative assessment which was to construct a story based on a picture prompt. To improve our spelling, we have started a daily word jumble challenge. We also tried to connect the dots between folk art, folk tales and monuments and reflected on how they give us information about our past. We saw a performance of Korean Folktales by three actors. They performed with minimum props and one actor played different characters in one story.

SCIENCE

PHYSICS

We began our UNIT-2, Light and listed the various sources of light. We categorized them as artificial and natural sources. We watched a video to understand the path of light waves. We did some activities which explained to us what happens when light travels from one medium to another. We used water in a beaker, paper slips, pencil and glass slab to conduct the activities to understand the concept of refraction. The activities were very interesting and exciting.

Last fortnight was very productive and fun because we learnt a lot. We had our formative assessment and discussed the assessment paper to correct our errors. We analysed our observations for the practical activity on particle theory. Most interesting part was the discussion on absolute zero. We wrapped up our unit with an interesting reflection on the unit, in which we discussed all the inquiry questions again. We analysed all activities and the concepts covered to find that we had developed ATL skills and exhibited learner profile attributes during the course of the unit. We also decided a goal for the next unit. We were introduced to our next unit, “Atoms”. We discussed the key concept, global context, statement of inquiry and the inquiry questions for the new unit.

Note making skill is an integral part of learning in IB. We have been polishing this skill in various ways. We are reading books and annotating the important text and then writing a single sentence to explain one paragraph. It is from these self-notes that we made mind maps which aided our learning.

Last fortnight, we have been focusing on the concept of angles. We learnt how to bisect an angle, find a missing angle, explored more about different types of angles and also learnt about the angle sum property of a triangle and a quadrilateral. We also did an angle crossword which was a lot of fun. We took a formative assessment for the unit in which we made an ” angular Rangoli”.

 FRENCH

We learnt the conjugations of the verb “etre” as well as the vocabulary for family members. We explored the ways in which we can describe a person based on the information provided and form sentences followed by an interactive activity “Roll the dice”. We had to use the verb etre and the subject pronouns to make phrases based on the vocabulary that we had learnt.         

SPANISH

We learnt to conjugate the verbs that express our likes and dislikes. We practiced making sentences in class.                                                                                

HINDI

Phase 1

We had a story telling session in our class based on a folktale ‘chaar ajoobe’.  We had a discussion about human values and ethics based on this story. We also watched a short film ‘Dar’ (Swami aur uske dost) followed by a class discussion. We did basic grammar practice in class.  

Phase 2

We had a story telling session in our class based on a Rajasthani folktale ‘Kavya aur baagh’.  We had a discussion about human values and ethics based on this story. We read many stories during class reading sessions. 

We also watched a short film ‘Dar’ (Swami aur uske dost) in class. We wrote an article on the topic- Are humans becoming completely selfish in the present times?

DIGITAL DESIGN

We have been introduced to Criterion B: Developing ideas. We have identified success criteria for our project and have started working on the prototype of the different screen layouts on storyboardthat.com. We will, in upcoming weeks, select and justify one prototype for the game.

VISUAL ARTS

We have almost completed our practical work where we have incorporated contemporary elements to folk art. We have added different colours and design patterns in our art works. During the unit, we worked on problem solving, organization and time management skills. We have also started writing reflections     

PRODUCT DESIGN

This week was fun and very productive as we did a final check tour of our power point presentations and were ready to submit them. The best part was that we were graded on the same day. We also started creating the sketch of our products using google sketch up.         

THEATRE

We watched videos of folktales from Vietnam and Japan. We explored these stories through the medium of group improvisation. We tried to connect our body movement and written text to create group ensembles based on folk tales. We also started a group discussion on the relationship between myths and folktales around the world.                                               

MUSIC

We learnt about different note values and rests – semibreve, minim, crotchet, quaver and semi quaver and the dotted notes. We also practiced composing our own rhythms using different note values in 4/4, 3/4- and 2/4-time signatures. We clapped on the rhythms that we created.

PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

We discussed about the term ” flexibility” in sports training and its importance during training. We also identified the sports in which flexibility is required the most.  Also, we practiced the skills of different sports of our choices during sports edge lesson.

ENGLISH

This fortnight, we worked on formal and informal letters and read folk tales from various books from the library. We reviewed the unit and identified areas where we had doubts and revised them. We also did a self-reflection activity in which we thought about how we can manage ourselves better; as an individual, in a group and as a member of the class. We also rated ourselves on the following parameters: managing our time and tasks effectively, managing our state of mind and managing our behaviour in class on a manage-o-meter ranging from 0 – 10.

SCIENCE

PHYSICS

We watched a video on the history of the metric system where we learned how the measurement was taken in earlier times. We also learned the need for a common metric system during French revolution and made a poster illustrating our understanding. We also completed the summative assessment for this unit.

 CHEMISTRY  

During the last two weeks we have done loads of work but the practical activity stood out the most. We were divided into groups and given one out of three activities to perform. We later collaborated and shared our observations and finally analysed our observations. We discussed the need for temperature conversions and learnt the formula for converting Kelvin scale into Celsius scale and Fahrenheit scale into Celsius scale and vice-versa. We applied our understanding of formulae to practice many numericals. We browsed through the relevant concepts in our Physical Science textbook. Last two weeks were really fun!

We learnt about the parts of a microscope. We also completed a labelling task sheet. Following this, we prepared a table on microscope parts and its function. We performed a practical on preparing the slide of an onion peel. Thereafter, we started our formative assessment on the same in the class.

We are exploring the most significant aspect of mankind – The Great Leap – wherein we are learning about the first cities that came up in the ‘Fertile Crescent’ leading to the rise of river valley civilisations.

In past few weeks we learned about the classification of angles. We also did an activity “angles in nature” where we measured the angles made by different petals of a flower, stems and leaves. We found that angles can be supplementary or complementary. We also practiced many word problems based on supplementary and complementary angles.  

 

 FRENCH

 Numerous skill-based activities on recapitulation of French vocabulary of classroom objects and instructions were conducted. All of us were divided into two groups and were given the task to label all of the classroom objects on different flashcards. The activity “Look, think, and find my word” was based on placing all of these flashcards in jumbled position in the classroom. One group was given this task and had to complete in 3 minutes. The next group was sent to a different classroom and had to wait for their next set of instructions- which was to place these flashcards in the correct order and position in 4 minutes. This collaborative activity was further followed by strengthening our grammar by doing worksheets on “Je me presente” and then presenting in class.                                                                               

SPANISH 

We had a discussion on extended family and revised it though a worksheet.  We practiced the description of a person in Spanish through an oral activity. We appeared in Formative Assessment of Criteria C & D.

We learnt how to identify and use different sounds and signs of ‘RA’ i.e. Ref, Paden and Re Matra. We practiced paragraph writing on the topic ‘Things that contribute to our growth and overall development as a Human’ This included friends, family, relatives, nature and society. We watched a Hindi feature film ‘School Bag’ which tells the story of a child and mother through which we practiced Criterion A. This week, we also had our formative assessments based on criteria B, C & D.

During research, we critically analyzed the differences between folk art of different regions and the new ways in which they have evolved in the contemporary time. We learnt how colours are extracted by natural processes, materials used in the art works and how to do composition arrangement in folk art. We are now creating a mind map, based on our research, for our final art work. We have completed the layout and process journal and have started our final work.                                

DIGITAL DESIGN

We finished our PPT on Criterion A for the formative assessment. We are continuing with our design cycle and Criterion B, which is Developing Ideas. We are gathering unstoppable thoughts upon how to make our game more and more riveting. We are trying to add and give a visual idea of the game we are making through http://www.storyboardthat.com. All the students are making their first game using Scratch.

THEATRE

We developed our own imaginary stories using the elements of folktales. The focus was on developing stories with a moral at the end. We presented our story as narrators and storytellers. We also focused on reflecting on each performance. 

 MUSIC

We practiced the ear training exercise in which the teacher played short musical phrases on the keyboard and we had to identify the notes played in those phrases. We also started with the concept of rhythm. We watched a video based on the importance of rhythm. We learnt different musical note values in order to learn composition of different rhythms. We learnt to clap on different rhythm compositions done by the teacher in 4/4 time signature.                                                                           

PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

We discussed about term “endurance” in sports training and its importance during training. We also identified the sports in which endurance is required the most.  Also, we practiced the skills of different sports of our choice during sports edge.

14th September 2018

 ENGLISH

We read three stories from different parts of the world namely Philippines, Ireland and Albania. We practised writing internal monologues of various characters by using direct evidence from the stories and also by using indirect references that challenged our imagination and creativity. We understood the story structure through Freytag’s story pyramid and observed different types of story opening lines as well as the use of paragraphs to define our writing skills.  We also observed the similarities across folktales from Japan and Albania, working on the premise that at the very core, the morals and themes remain the same.

SCIENCE

PHYSICS: In continuation to fundamental and SI units, we learned what derived units are and why we need them. We also practiced unit conversion of 5 basic physical quantities – Length, mass, volume, time and temperature (conversion of degree Celsius to degree Fahrenheit).

 CHEMISTRY: We observed a laboratory thermometer and noted our observations. We learnt the working of the thermometer and completed its activity sheet. We observed and compared the movement of particles in cold and hot water and completed the activity sheet based on the same. We took our formative assessment, which was a cut and paste activity, on changes of states of matter.

BIOLOGY: We watched a video on plant and animal cell and compared the two by drawing a Venn diagram showing its comparison. We also did a practical on identifying the different parts of microscopes. We learned about focusing the microscope and the role of diaphragm and the mirror when focusing the slides.

INDIVIDUALS & SOCIETIES

We learnt about Homo Habilis ‘Handy Man’, Homo Erectus- first to use fire and Homo Sapiens – ‘wise man’. This helped us to reconstruct their biological profile and lifestyle. The Palaeolithic period and various types of tools that were used during this age were studied with greater emphasis on ‘evolution of stone tool technology’.                                                         

MATHEMATICS

We have reached the end of our unit “number system”. We discussed how to differentiate between prime & composite numbers and factors & multiples. We also learnt how to make a factor tree. We reviewed the concepts of HCF and LCM and learnt to apply these using examples from real life and by watching a related video      

FRENCH

During this week, we have done a lot of interactive activities. Firstly, we did an activity to learn classroom instructions in which we were paired into groups and were asked to draw scenes from real classroom situations where classroom instructions are utilized. We used as many instructions as we could in our pictures which was really helpful as we learnt the spellings. Afterwards, we practiced for our Formative Assessment by doing listening activities, worksheets on concepts of presenting yourself, asking name, age, profession, nationality, etc., and filling personal details in an identity card. We also discussed our homework and this prepared us better for the FA which happened in this week.      

SPANISH

We described our favourite famous personalities in Spanish. We also learnt family tree in Spanish and described each member of the family using the verbs “Ser, tener and llevar”.                                                                             

HINDI

We revised the basics of language and had a discussion on why we celebrate Hindi Diwas. We wrote our messages for Hindi Diwas. We also practiced writing paragraphs and shared our work with peers in class.

We analysed a range of existing products and identified the strength and weakness of each idea. We are going to incorporate the same while finalizing our designs.

We were introduced to the two strands of Inquiring and Analysing phase of Design Cycle. We explained and justified our problem in a form of presentation and identified the research questions. We will be creating questionnaires and surveys to collect requirements from client. We will also research extensively on the concept on which we want to create the game.

 THEATRE

We started exploring folktales through the medium of group improvisation. We focused on creating a written text for the folktales. We discussed the elements of storytelling and created individual imaginary tales to be presented as a storytelling task.                          

MUSIC

We had our first formative assessment in which we had to describe some basic music terminology and identify the pitches marked on the Treble and Bass clefs. We did an ear training exercise in which the teacher played short musical phrases on the keyboard and we had to identify the notes played in those phrases.  The analogy of playing by ear is writing language when it is dictated. Developing aural awareness is fundamental to musical training because having a ‘musical ear’ impacts all aspects of musicianship.

ENGLISH

We explored the five elements of a story extensively. We have distinguished between the theme and moral of a story. In one activity, we were given a picture prompt, and in another task, a setting, characters and a theme around which we created original stories that also had to have a moral. After seeing a video of a Jataka Tale, we determined its theme and identified all the other elements of a story. We have been brushing up basic grammar concepts as this unit progresses.

SCIENCE

PHYSICS

We were given various measuring tools to name and explain their use. We thought of an experiment which could be performed in the lab with those tools. We discussed the SI unit for various measurements and learned to convert other form of units to standard unit. We reflected on the thought of importance of SI units.

CHEMISTRY

We compared the properties of solids, liquids and gases to complete Venn diagram. We explored two types of solids and compared their properties.  We observed and discussed surface tension and viscosity as two important properties of liquid and watched videos on the same. We discussed the application of these properties in daily life.

BIOLOGY

We took the bench marking assessment in the class. We watched a song on seven life processes and listed the same in our notebook while watching the video. Using the Holt’s Life Science textbook, we also learned about the necessities of life like air, water, place to live and food, in a group activity, We then shared our understanding with other groups members and noted what the other members explained about the topics assigned to them.

MATHEMATICS

We explored some more properties of numbers moving ahead in our unit, Number System. We learnt how to express numbers using index notation for which we also did a doodle sheet. We further learnt about BEDMAS wherein we learnt the correct order of operation on numbers. We also did a group activity to learn about a lot of other number systems. 

FRENCH

This week commenced with the introduction to the unit, My Personal World. After understanding the key concepts and global context pertaining to this unit, we had a discussion on the statement of inquiry and this led to altering the one previously decided. We further discussed the inquiry questions, and then we participated in the Role Play activity. Our teacher gave us dialogues and ideas to carry out routine conversations in a classroom, home, or among our friends. Using these ideas, we made as many dialogues as we could and learnt the subject pronouns as well. Lastly, we revised the verbs (etre, avoir, s’appeler), learnt the French accents, practiced pronouncing the nasal and oral sounds, and then participated in a pair activity to strengthen our listening and dictating skills.

SPANISH

We learnt to describe a person physically using the verbs “Ser” and “Tener”. We enjoyed an activity ‘Guess who?’ where two of us stood facing each other. One of us could see the picture of a famous personality on the screen.  Each partner of the pair and the other one had to guess.   

HINDI

Phase 1  We had a discussion on the unit ‘Me, My Family and Friends’. We discussed the various concepts of family and extended family and had a writing activity based on the same. We read the Hindi story ‘Makhmal Mein Lipte Joote’ & ‘Mere Raaste ke Sangee’ and had vocabulary building activities in the class. 

Phase 2  We had a discussion on the unit ‘Me, My Family and Friends’. We discussed the various concepts of family and extended family and had a writing activity based on the same. We read the Hindi story ‘Mere Padosi ka Jaana’ and had vocabulary building activities in the class.  

DIGITAL DESIGN

We brainstormed individually on the game that we will design and identify the client for the same. We identified different elements in a game. We sketched some visuals and details of our games and shared it with our peers for their feedback. We will now work on Scratch to acquire the skills required for our product.

 VISUAL ARTS

We have developed an understanding of folk art through various activities and discussions. We have researched on different elements of folk-art and have tried to present them in contemporary context by moving away from the conventional ways. We have tried to enhance our skills by understanding how the conventional ways of folk art have changed in the present global perspectives. We have introduced several interesting and new ideas.

PRODUCT DESIGN

We connected our products with the global context, statement of inquiry and how inquiry questions are catered to throughout the unit. This activity was highlighted communication skills. We wrote our understanding of the same and all the information was displayed on the bulletin board.

THEATRE

We watched videos of folktales from Vietnam and Japan. We explored these stories through the medium of group improvisation. We tried to connect our body movement and written text to create group ensembles based on folk tales. We also started a group discussion on the relationship between myths and folktales around the world.  

MUSIC

We did a pitch puzzle activity in which each pair had to come up with words that could be spelled using the notes on the staff in a given time limit. We could only use the letters ‘A to G’ to form different words as we just have these seven letters that are used to denote pitch names on the musical staff. We also learnt about the Bass clef notes, a whole and half-step intervals between pitches.

 PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

We discussed the concept of ‘Strength’ and its importance in sports training. We also identified the sports in which strength is required the most.     

 

Beginning of a New Academic Year, 10th August, 2018

 

ENGLISH

We began the new academic session with exciting and engaging activities that helped us revise our prior learning and various skills. We were introduced to the seemingly complex world of MYP jargon where we became familiar with terms like Global context, Key concepts and Related concepts. We understood the assessment criteria for language and literature and navigated our way through the command terms. To understand this better, we framed questions based on command terms for the story ‘Last Leaf’ by O’ Henry. Subsequently, we identified the five basic elements of this story and discussed the theme. With the help of another folk tale, we worked in groups to determine the difference between the theme and moral of a story and eventually wrote an original story based on a theme assigned to each group.

SCIENCE

PHYSICS

We started the academic session by reviewing our concepts of graph. We did this by group discussions and an activity where we learned about parts of graph, independent & dependent variables and interpreting and drawing bar and line graphs. ‘Measurement’ by watching the video on safety tools used in labs. This helped us to become aware of the various safety symbols

CHEMISTRY

We started our new academic year with enhancing our skills required in Science. We discussed the importance and usage of command terms. We discussed each command term in detail and framed questions using them. We started the new unit in Chemistry, ‘Building Blocks’. The key concept, global context, statement of inquiry and the inquiry questions were shared, followed by a class discussion.  We did a starter activity for the unit. We have presented our understanding about the properties of solids, liquids and gases by doing a role play and discussed other important properties and completed a task sheet on the same.

BIOLOGY

We started our academic year by dwelling more on developing skills in science. We learned about scientific method and the different steps of a scientific method.  We watched a video on the same. We also learned about variables, types of variables and did few examples to list the dependent, independent and controlled variables. We started the new unit ‘Building Blocks’. The key concept, global context, statement of inquiry and the inquiry questions were shared, followed by a class discussion.  We referred to few reference books and completed the task ‘Reading Response’ on characteristic of living and non-living things, life processes and then, summarized this information.

INDIVIDUALS & SOCIETIES

In order to make a smooth transition from PYP to MYP, we started the new session with skill building activities wherein we defined all four assessment criteria in our own words. We also explored the world of Primary and Secondary sources and its relevance in understanding of our pasts.

MATHEMATICS

We started the academic session by reviewing our concepts of previously learned concepts of number system. We did this through an activity, ‘My Grocery Shopping’, where we made a balance sheet. We also learned about the command terms and revisited them with the help of a worksheet. We have started with the unit, ‘Number System’ and applying the mathematical operation in real life word problems.

FRENCH

The new academic session began with a lot of excitement for learning French. Our class has students who have studied French previously in PYP and others have chosen simply because of their interest in this language of love and beauty. This week started off with various ice breaking activities in which we revised the daily conversations of greeting and saying goodbye, playing with numbers, and pronouncing the French alphabets. We played games such as Hangman, Guess My Word to recapitulate our vocabulary as well as had a quiz on the French culture and civilization. Lastly, we learnt how to introduce ourselves by playing a game in which the French teacher gave us various words on cards and we made as many phrases as we could by using them.

SPANISH

Brainstorming and scaffolding skill-based activities were conducted in the class which helped us to recall what we have learnt in primary years. We enjoyed role plays based on greetings, farewell and basic introduction.

HINDI

We shared our summer vacation experiences and discussed about our areas of improvement for the new term, related to language and ATL skills.  We also had various activities like Just A Minute and Pahchan kaun in our class which were helpful in developing our communication and collaboration skills. We also read various stories and articles during group reading activities.  Under SEL (social emotional learning), we made cards for our peers which helped us in understanding each other’s skills and positive aspects of personality. We also discussed the essential agreements for our classes. This week, we also had our bench marking assessments.

DIGITAL DESIGN

We started with an interesting activity of watching a movie, ‘Soar’, and identifying design elements in the story. It was fun to do a collaborative task and listen to others’ perspectives. Since design as a subject is new to us, we are learning the basic concepts related to it. In another task, we learnt how to create infographics using ‘easel.ly‘ and created an infographic on ‘Elements Of Game Design’ which is our current unit. We have created our account on ‘scratch, mit.edu‘ and will be using it to design games.

ART

We have developed an understanding of folk art through various activities and discussions. PRODUCT DESIGN

Beginning of a new unit in Design subject is always fun as we will explore new techniques, new products and a new software during the course of this term. We have started with our new unit ‘Introduction to Design Cycle’. Ma’am taught us all the stages of the design cycle and importance of the same in the design world.  We interviewed primary and secondary teachers as our clients and understood their problems. Back in class, we brainstormed the problems and we will do research to find out the solutions.

THEATRE

We discussed the concept of folktales in detail. We explored the elements, types, and characteristics of folktales. We tried to create group improvisation based on imaginary stories. We watched videos of folktales from various cultures around the world.

MUSIC

We had an introduction session wherein everybody talked about their interest and knowledge about music so far. We also did a few ice breaking activities that helped them to discover about everybody’s personal interests and unique talents. We learnt the names of different pitches and how to read them like musicians.  We became familiar with the structure of the keyboard, names of all the white and black keys on the keyboard, the staff – which is used by the musicians to notate the written music, Treble clef (G-clef), note names and their placement on the staff. We also studied about the relationships between pitch, frequency, wavelength and tension.

PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

We were introduced to our first unit- ‘Fitness Through Different Sports’ in the class. We were briefed about the importance of exercise in daily routine. We discussed the term physical fitness and the components of physical fitness
