We have been working on polishing our writing skills with added focus on grammatical accuracy, coherence and organisation of thoughts for every writing task. We have practiced several diary entries but the most interesting one was based on a picture prompt. We learnt to complete the rhetorical triangle and then decided on the tone we would like to use as authors. We, also, used this skill to express some of our reflection during SEL period.
We have also learnt the basics of answering a compare and contrast question using Venn diagram as an organizer. We have used Auggie as a constant and compared him to another superhuman, Nick Vujicic who was born without limbs, and to the central character of the song Wonder by Natalie Merchant. This unit is teaching us to be more empathetic as we now realise that differently abled people or those suffering from rare medical conditions need our friendship and respect as much as we need theirs.
We completed our last unit Chemicals in Life by taking its summative assessment. Then, we started with our new unit which is interactions. We discussed the inquiry questions in class. The first activity we did was peer interview, in which we became the interviewer and asked questions to our peers related to force and its application in our day to day activities. After that, we presented our understanding on force in front of the class and in the end, ma’am collated all our answers and explained about force. We related it to the global context, related concepts and key concept of the unit.

During our Chemistry lessons, we got extensive information on the periodic table and its intriguing elements. We watched a video and learnt about many intellectual philosophers and scientists who are known for the development of the periodic table. We have grasped the art of analysing the periodic table too. We discussed about many elements and mastered their tricky symbols. We observed videos and discussed the physical and chemical properties of group 1 and group 2 elements and their uses in our daily lives. We are currently having a thrilling on-going group assessment on the periodic table.

We started a new unit ‘Mystery of Elements’. The global context, key concept, related concept and the statement of inquiry was shared in the class. We learned about different type of nutrients. We worked in groups and referred to Holt’s Life Science textbook to research on different nutrients. We then designed an ‘eat well’ plate which was a part of our formative assessment. We also watched a video on deficiency diseases. This was followed by a class discussion. Finally, we summarized our learning about different mineral and vitamin deficiency diseases in the form of a table

INDIVIDUALS & SOCIETIES
We have completed our summative assessment on our last unit ‘Landforms and Settlements’ and have started our new unit ‘Diversity and Equality.’ In this unit, we will learn about the types of diversity, how inequality is caused, and lots more. Many activities have also been done in class. One was about diversity and how our different preferences make us diverse. In the second activity, we discussed how other countries have influenced our life. Our unit has just begun and we have already learnt a lot. We have been enjoying the past few classes and look forward to the next class.

In our recent math classes, we have explored the concept of Algebra in more depth. We learnt how to solve algebraic expressions in the class. We were taught how to solve linear equations with input and output tables. We took our second formative assessment on the concept of fractals and patterns. We learned the importance and usage of patterns and fractals in our real life. We also practiced how to make equations based on patterns and predict the next numbers from the equations. We are really enjoying exploring the new concept of Algebra.

Towards the end of the term, the unit which we have started is “My Neighbourhood”. We introduced this unit by designing its unit plan and inquiry questions. Firstly, we have learnt the vocabulary for places and shops in the town as well as the special French stores such as a pastry shop, confectionary shop, tailor/ launderer, etc through memory games, flash card activity, and blindfold activity. We have also covered prepositions related to finding places in town/ neighbourhood with the help of skill-building activities. This week, we have learnt the conjugation of the verb “aller” which means ‘to go’ and understood the rules of conjugation by doing a skill-building activity. We will now learn the adjectives to describe our neighbourhood and how to form the plural of nouns.
We learnt to talk about My Neighborhood. We revised the vocabulary and verbs through fun activities. We formed two teams in the class, “Equipo Morado” and “Equipo Verde”. Each member of the group had 1 Q card. It had a question written on it. We had to pass the ball to one of the members of the other team and ask the question which was written on the card. That team member had to answer the question but could pass the question if they didn’t know the answer. This time, the team purple “Morado” was the winner.
HINDI – Phase 1 & 2
In the last two weeks, we wrapped up our previous unit (festivals, tradition and culture) and have also taken the summative assessment for the same. The assessment was divided in two parts – video based and image based. The criteria we covered were A and CD. Finally, we started our new unit (Our free time) by answering some questions and having a detailed discussion for the same. The questions were :-
- Should we take breaks in our day to day lives? Justify?
- What activities can we do in our spare time?
- Should we reserve this spare time for our extra studies or relaxation?
On 25th of March, we finished our criterion B. After that, we started doing an interesting task in excel. The task was to make a Gantt chart and make plans about our 3D model on it. First, we wrote the task, then we decided the materials required and finally, we wrote descriptions. Also, we wrote the date and colored the boxes of what we want to do on a particular date. Gantt chart will help us to manage our time. We started working our product on 123d design. Along with that, we started writing our process journal in a presentation format. It was a useful day because we could finish our product on 123d design. Excitement is building to print the models using the printer.

We have finished our collaborative creative installations, and they were presented in the art exhibition for our parent-teacher meeting. We all were really happy to share our thoughts and inputs with others and were delighted to see all our hard work take shape. After our installation project was complete, we wrote a commentary. We were explained that in a commentary we write about the process of how we made our installations, the challenges we faced and how we feel about our installation. We “commented” on how we felt about our installations to end the unit. We are now beginning with our new unit-3D Object Study.

We created multiple jewellery designs using 2D design software. We uploaded these sketches in our presentation and made a list of materials required to create these designs. Next week, we will explore laser machine to take the print out of our designs.
We unpacked the concept of improvisation through a number game. The rules were simple – we were supposed to swap certain numbers with gibberish sounds. It showed us how improvisation is an art of thinking quick and how it’s not as easy as it seemed in the first place. We also did an activity where we wrote down five things we would love to do in the future, either as a passion or a profession and spoke about Greta Thunberg, a 16 year old Swedish girl who has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Once we deconstruct what we love the most out of the five things we listed, we will turn ourselves into those characters and design a play on it.
We had our summative assessment in which we had to either compose or take an original composition to sing or play on any instrument to demonstrate the elements we had chosen to present with clarity. We were given a feedback by the teacher on our performances post assessment. Our summative assessment helped us collaborate with our chosen group. We honed our creative thinking and collaborative skills in our assessment.
